In the studio with The Wood Brothers – The making of “Kingdom In My Mind”
Come to Life had the honour of joining Grammy nominated band The Wood Brothers in their Nashville Studio and at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre as they were putting the finishing touches on their latest record “Kingdom In My Mind”.
Dubbed the masters of soulful folk, The Wood Brothers formed after brothers Chris and Oliver Wood had pursued separate musical careers for 15 years. Chris already had a legion of devoted fans from his legendary work as the bass player in Medeski Martin & Wood, while Oliver toured with Tinsley Ellis before releasing half a dozen albums with his band King Johnson. With drummer Jano Rix joining them as the third member, it has become quite clear that The Wood Brothers are indeed a force to be reckoned with.
This is a monumental album for the The Wood Brothers who have taken a very unique approach to the writing, arranging, and presentation of the songs on this record. Multi-tracking their favourite improvised jams, the band took these recorded jam sessions and used them as the basis for their song writing. The result is a masterpiece collection of deeply touching, enriching and empathic songs that have a rhythm and musicality to them that is fully alive and moving in each moment. The melodic sound is infectious, the rhythms complex and funky, and the lyrics are rich with epiphanies that embrace the need for authenticity and connection in our world.
Join us in their Nashville studio where The Wood Brothers talk more about the making of this record and stay tuned for upcoming live, off the floor performances and more behind the scenes footage with Come to Life.
