DIY Enlighten Mint with Guayakí

A great alternative that is very close to the real deal!

While I forever will love the ritualistic experience of cracking open a cold Guayakí Yerba Mate in a can, I’ve found great joy in making my own custom versions of Guayakí’s cult classic cans.  Today, I’m sharing my DIY Enlighten Mint recipe! I think it’s a great alternative that is very close to the real deal. Keep reading to get the details on making your own and lets come to life together!


  • 1 Gallon Brewed Guayakí Yerba Mate with Peppermint (1/2 Cup Loose Leaf Mate + 1/4 Cup Peppermint Fresh or Dry- About 3 Tea Bags)

  • 1 Bunch Fresh Mint

  • 1/4 Cup Raw Honey or Sweetener of Choice

  • Juice from 1/2 Lemon

Makes approx 1 gallon pitcher.  Follow same methods with decreased ingredient quantities for smaller portions.



  1. Brew your yerba mate + peppermint, and set aside to cool. Combine raw honey or alternative sweetener (agave, date syrup, or whatever sweetener you have on hand) to the yerba mate while it’s still warm so they meld together. Do a taste test and adjust sweetness to desired level.

  2. After your brew has cooled, strain and transfer into another container like jars or a pitcher.

  3. Crush the fresh mint slightly in your hands or with a mortar + pestle to release the flavor, then add into your mate/peppermint brew and let infuse for 2-8 hours.

  4. As a final step, adjust any flavors you feel necessary and add in lemon juice to top it off. If making a full pitcher you’ll need about half a lemon.
