Natural Highs
Natural Highs is a substance abuse and recovery program at New Vista HS, September HS and a growing number of high schools in Boulder Colorado.
It was developed to assist students to find alternative rituals to drugs and alcohol through teaching them about brain chemistry and by providing a weekly yerba mate ceremony where students are able to connect with their peers in a positive way.
Since the introduction of yerba mate ceremonies into the Natural Highs Program, the ritual has been adopted into similar programs through the Counseling and Psychological Services Department at the University of Colorado and Center for Change (CFC) which is a State-licensed outpatient treatment agency specializing in the treatment of adults and adolescents.
