I first saw the Guayaki bottled drinks in the Company cafeteria. I was looking to an alternative to the popular 'energy' drinks, which made me jittery and gave me headaches. I found the Yerba Mate line, particularly the Guayaki brand, to be the absolute best. I'm so hooked on it I drink it 6 days a week, every morning! I just can't start my day without it. For the past several years I would start my day with a Mocha. It would give me a jolt that brought nervousness, and anxiety as well. Guayaki gives me more energy than any other stimulant without the dehydration of coffee and sugar of energy drinks. I drink a gourd every morning and before I play basketball, run, climb or do yoga. A gourd is also the most amazing hang over cure.

I recently introduced mate to my Fire Fighting colleagues and most have switched over from coffee. I work for the Forest Service on a hot shot crew. We often stay out in the Forest for multiple days and have a lot of long shifts. In order to keep everyone happy I bring along a thermos and a guard on the fire line. Maybe not the most efficient item to stuff in my pack but nothing better to help build comradery than passing around a gourd after a long shift. We also eat a lot of MRE's or rations and the mate which contains methionine which helps break down fatty acids and helps the digestive system. I have been enjoying Mate for a long time and am excited to have shared this wonderful healthy product with so many other people. I recently bought the Guayaki Energy Shots and fell in love with the Chocolate Raspberry flavor. I have fibromyalgia, cerebral palsy, and several other disorders that can cause fatigue, pain, and fogginess. The first time I drank a full bottle of the Lemon Energy Shot, I was able to go eight straight hours with no fatigue or pain flare-up. Then I tried the Chocolate Raspberry the next day, and got the same results. I was so thrilled that I went out and bought a case of twelve bottles, so I'd have two weeks of yerba mate energy. I'm just so impressed. I also love that at the end of the day, I can easily let myself fall asleep without feeling insomnia. Hi Folks! I took the 2 week challenge and drank 2 bottles of your mate each day. Let me tell y I am very hard to fool. My skin was less dehydrated and had more elasticity, i am a young 56 yr old. I want to let you know that this stuff is like magic. I am a Father of a baby that dosn't sleep, construction worker, and training for cage fighting. I would drink coffee and energy drinks like no other, till one day. My instructor and friend told me about yerba mate, at first i didn't think it would do anything cause i was use to the New age energy drinks and coffee life style. I was fight training and i started cramping up during my last round, my instructor sat me down and told me no more energy drinks or coffee. I wasn't thrilled to hear that so i started drinking empowering mint yerba mate. I felt a different type of energy, not jittery, but a focused healthy energy i would blast through my very intense workouts and not crash down when i would go home to play with my baby boy. It was early spring of 1998 in Northern California, a rainy day. I felt like I was coming down with a cold. I wandered into a cafe I had passed but never gone into before, having had a regular 'hangout'. I told the guy behind the counter, who looked like Mr. Clean (bald with an earring) I was under the weather. He asked "How about a cup of yerba mate? It's a South American herb." (Herb, in an odd coincidence, turned out to be Mr. Clean's name). I said "Omigod, is that the stuff where you throw up and see God? Is that legal?" After a moment of giving me a blank look, he said "No, you're thinking of Ayahuasca. This is legal, it's herb tea. Very healthy, full of nutrients." He not only made me a big steaming cup--brewed the traditional way from bulk mate, not a tea bag--and added some honey and lemon for my scratchy throat. I was hooked from the first sip! I have since urged friends to try it, and gotten responses ranging from "Tastes strong, like grass clippings" to (the next day) "What was that stuff you gave me two sips of, I didn't get to sleep till 6 am!" The world is full of wimps. Herb gave me a Guayaki brochure, full of wonderful info about the nutritional benefits of mate. I began to drink it regularly, Herb dressing it up for me (in the days before you could buy different flavors) with ginger, apricot tea, mint, and even once espresso (I don't recommend Matespresso for anyone who is sensitive to stimulants--I'm not, and I was mad jazzed!) My favorite became a little bit of honey, and a sprig of fresh mint. I drank two a day, always from the cafe before I found it at Whole Foods so I could make it myself. I drank one with lunch and took the other to work. I worked the 3 to 11 shift in financial printing during the go-go years and often worked till the wee hours and even all night, and had to stay alert to proofread stock prospectuses. I found that unlike coffee, which picked me up and then dropped me hard, mate gave me a steady, calm alertness that was invaluable on my job. It never kept me awake once I was ready to sleep. Other benefits included improving the quality of my sleep, brightening my skin and hair, strengthening my nails, and best of all, controlling my appetite--when I got coffee crashes I always got the munchies, but with mate I never felt those hunger pangs. My overall health was good, better than people 20 years younger than me at my company--mate strengthens the immune system. Knowing I was a mate enthusiast, a friend gave me a beautiful silver edged gourd and silver bombilla set; I didn't use it but gave it to the cafe to add to their Guayaki display. Not long ago I moved to Lancaster County PA--from Silicon Valley to Amish Country was quite a culture shock. For awhile I couldn't find mate at all, either in cafes or coffee and tea shops, but finally found it in a whole food grocery. Alas, they only carried the tea bags, and I prefer bulk because I like my mate very strong, so I decided to order it direct from Guayaki. I am full time student and a full time biomedical researcher. Hello Guayaki mate people, Long, solitary working hours for months and years on end .. such was my lot of a student working diligently toward a PhD in a computer science lab, as I was in for six years. Guayaki mate - and only your mate - was the drink that kept me sharp and *happy* in the wee hours from 9pm to 3am, and then again in the morning. Amazing product .. a gentle stimulant, but an excellent mind-focusing libation. Now I am a professor, and a mate apostle - I introduce your product to my coffee-addicted colleagues and my students .. and they love it, as well. I can live without many things, but I never go travel to any conference, meeting, or mentally taxing enterprise without some our your mate. It puts me in an excellent mood. While I was living and camping with my friend and brother in the Oregon rainforest this past summer, the nights and mornings were cold and the ground was hard (except when we were using our hammocks!).
