We have videos of how to prepare mate! To watch the videos - click the icons below. French Press: Place yerba mate in the French press. Add hot water and steep for 3-10 minutes. We recommend using 1-2 tbsp of loose mate per cup. First, moisten the mate with cool water to protect the nutrients and flavor, then ADD HOT (NOT BOILING) WATER. Coffee Maker: Place yerba mate in filter basket, then brew. We recommend using 1-2 tbsp of loose mate per cup. First, moisten the mate with cool water to protect the nutrients and flavor, then run the machine as usual. Espresso Maker: Yerba mate brews well in most espresso makers. Place 1-2 tbsp of loose mate in a double espresso portafilter. Pull a long shot for a total of 4 oz. Great for making mate lattés. Mate Latte Recipe: Brew an 8 oz. cup of Guayakí Yerba Mate. Add sweetener (sugar, honey, or maple syrup) to taste and 4 oz. of steamed milk of choice. Top off with milk foam. Makes a 12 oz. latté. Mate Gourd: Yerba mate is traditionally prepared in a gourd and shared among a circle of friends. Welcome the moments of community born of your own mate circle.
I love the Barbacua blend mixed with the Gaucho! I use 4 scoops barbacua and one scoop gaucho in a 8 cup french press. I do enjoy my mate strong and smokey and this definitely is the perfect combination for me. Guayaki does such a great job of bringing over the best mate for us to enjoy and I have a tremendous amount of respect for the company's sustainable business model as well. Like my mate combination Guayaki is the perfect mix of a great product with a mindful, conscious, business practice! Thank you for all you do!!

I start my day with a coffee press of Barbarua blend Mata. It is a great was to start the day and it has a wonderful taste. It is much smoother than coffee and easier on my stomach. I have been drinking Mate for years but only discovered Barbacua blend with in the last year and really like it.

This is great mate! I love the Barbacua blend as I think it packs a nice punch, but it is smooth and easy sipping. The taste is complex and next to the Ache's Pride mate, it is much my faveorite!

If you love the smokey flavor of the original Guayaki Yerba Mate, I've found this barbacua mate blend to be just that much better. Oh man, I love it! I buy the 5lb. bag now ever 3 months. Organic, fair-trade, sustainable efforts with a working business model... man I'd love to contribute to the efforts of this company! I guess I am by purchasing Guayaki over the other cheap brands in my neighborhood.

This barbacua tea makes awesome iced tea. The smokey notes are similar to the fermented black tea everyone is already used to. The natural caffeine also rocks. Keefustar

Ordered 10 lbs of Barbacua Mate Blend before flying up to Palmer AL, (45 mins or so out of Anchorage). Flew up to drive a friend back to the Seattle area on the ALCON Hwy. My 10 lbs showed up within a day or so and made it in time for the trip. Fabulous when you live on a small island in Puget Sound. Set off for Al. We head off south in a bit of snow, this is mid-Oct in Al after all but I had my friend and a full coffee press of Mate. I usllusaly only drink the one press myself but on this trip, we would just keep adding water to the coffee press. The Barbacua never became bitter. My Argenten friend that turned me on to yuba yrs ago would drink it all day long in a gord, I get it now. anyway. we took about a week to drive the AlCAN and make it back to island. Every morning I would bring it into the cafe with me. Many of the waitstaff would wonder what is that wird stuff? Some would tast it. We made some of our best conections talking about your yuba mate, what it is, how it groun susanibly....We had a great time

The extra smokiness adds so much flavor, its almost hard to go back to the original Guayaki Yerba. None the less, it is delicious and so are all of the other Guayaki tea products we've tried.

I have been drinking the Barbacua blend for awhile now, and it is my favorite mate. I look forward to my morning Barbacua session everyday.

Great flavor, high quality, good balance. I haven't had anything else that tops it.
