Vitamins, minerals and a caffeine buzz

A cup of yerba mate (mah-tay) tea just might be the perfect morning elixir. Not only is it full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, this earthy brew made from the leaves of the South American yerba mate tree also has as much caffeine as a cup of coffee.

A line of yerba mate tea bags and bottled beverages is produced by Guayaki, which was co-founded by David Karr, who discovered another benefit of yerba mate tea when he served it at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn., a couple of years ago.

"We served it to musicians backstage a lot," Karr said. "The musicians told us it was a groove enhancer."

To see if this ancient brew can do a little something for your groove, go to www.guayaki.com or look for yerba mate teas at Wild Oats stores.
