A Cut Above
Guayaki Yerba Mate has the typical “Paraguayan” cut. In Uruguay, you will find that they prefer their mate cut to have even more powder. In Argentina, you will find the preferred cut is void of both powder and stems. In our years of research drinking mate in tea bags, through a French press, in a gourd or guampa, we have found that the Paraguayan cut delivers the smoothest balance of flavor.

Imparting the sweet nutty profile from the stem content balanced with the strength of the additional surface area from the powder, you have a full bodied mate with several characteristic layers of flavor. We like to consider the cut as a sort of “whole herb” approach, understanding that the stems add their own distinct function, and indeed carry an additional nutritional profile to the mate.

When packing a gourd, gently shaking the mate with a tilt allows the stems to rise, and the powder to drop. After inserting the bombilla, the gourd is tilted upright allowing the larger stems and leaf to surround the bombilla, and thus creating an additional “filter” layer that assists in keeping out the fine sediment. Without the powder, the mate needs additional time to impart its full flavor. With the powder, you get balanced flavor from the start, with the leaves and stem assisting in carrying the balanced flavor throughout the duration of the mate drinking session.

Mate makes my morning

I've been drinking mate every morning for about nine years, and take my loose leaf with me when I travel or go horse camping. I don't know how it works, but I feel good, have energy, and don't get sick. I drink it with a tiny amount of lemon juice, hot or cold. I love it.

I have used mate for almost 6 years now, i use it daily, I find that my days go smoother, I have more energy, and less fatigue than days when I use coffee, or don't drink either. It is also proving to be useful as a weight loss device.

Great Tea

I have been drinking this tea for more than 8 years now and I have always enjoyed drinking this tea with some honey and splenda or sugar. I will drink about 2 - 4 pints every morning and it always leaves me with a good, clean feeling all day, wakes me up, and does put me on a crash course from a caffine high as coffee does. This tea is also great as a iced tea during the day; just steep it, let it cool and add some ice cubes with sugar or splenda and a slice of lemon if you want, and you are good to go as great iced tea.

saved my life and a bit of forest

I'm Happy To Review This Great Product

I tried Yerba Mate tea when I couldn't drink coffee anymore because it was too acidic for my system. I liked it right away. In the beginning I bought small boxes at the local health food store. But In 2005 my husband retired and we became fulltime RV travelers. That is when I started to order my Yerba Mate in bulk so that I could have it available no matter where we were in the country. If it wasn't for watching The View from the Bay that day, I wouldn't have found out about this delicious hot drink. Not sure if you call it a tea or what. I have to say it is delicious.
