I drink the unflavored tea warm and chilled. WARM DRINK The addition of soymilk and honey makes it sweet and creamy. CHILLED DRINK For a sweet chilled drink add desired amount of honey while still hot refridgerate for an hour.

i have been drinking mate instead of coffee for about a month now and the results are amazing.i deeply love the bitter taste of mate and drink it without sugar or milk. it relaxs and revives me at the same time and i don't get jittery at all.i feel like it is healthful as opposed to coffee and more conducive to my healthy lifestyle.i really appreciate the politics of your company and don't feel like i am exploiting anyone, but helping indigenous people. my stepmother is from argentina and always drank mate when we were kids and i thought it looked cool but i never drank it. i have a different opinion of her now and realize how she tolerated all of us! so...its time for me to get out in my studio, create some art, listen to Democracy Now and drink some mate.I have enclosed a mosaic i just completed. she is called Mate Goddess. hope you enjoy her...

Spreading the word and using it for the rest of my life!

Hello, Guayaki! I , also, did find you here in one of our local health food stores here in the Quad Cities here in Iowa, Ill. area of the country. They also, give out a free health magazine, i pick up as much as possible and read all the new latest things. That's where I found out about your wonderful product. I have had it in loose form as well as tea bags. I agree with a lot of your fans, however, that the loose tea seems to be the most potent! It certaintly has a way better taste than any kind of coffee I ever had. I was a coffee drinker for so long, it would give my age away! It never, ever gives me the jitters. I never get flat on my face, later from it, either. I have shared it with several friends who were forced as well as chose to give up coffee. I also, make it with cream and sugar, or honey and half and half as well. We like the vanilla nut and the moca maca. They are so wonderful! I brew it in my coffee pot with a regular filter every morning. It has curved my appetite and cut down on my eating portions through the day. It has helped me stay at a reasonable stable weight. It has also worked as a great detoxifier as well. I hope I can continue spreading the word and using it for the rest of my life! Thank you, Guayaki! Amy Perreault  2006-02-17

Oyate

The entire Nation akin to ‘All the People’ My wife (who is from N.Calif.) turned me onto yerba when we met a couple years ago and I have been pretty much a coffee drinker up until now, these last few weeks I have given in and been drinking yerba (Guayaki brand of course). Since then I have been a recent, regular, daily drinker of yerba; I have lost a little weight, I don’t have that “zipped out” feeling coffee gives if I have too much.  I don’t get that coffee crash, yet feel energized enough, and on an even keel, to pull me through my work day in the office. It has a hint of a tea taste but more richer than the taste of tea, more earth flavored, which I like.
My wife and I had lived (and met) in Oregon (where yerba is fairly well known) and moved back to South Dakota 1 ? years ago (to my hometown) and of course not many know about yerba around here. Even dieticians I work with don’t know about it. I always joke with my wife we ought to put a drink stand at the local bluegrass music and pseudo-hippie festivals and give out free samples and sell yerba; not so much to make money but to promote good health in “beef & coffee country” which South Dakota is full of. Even at Pow-Wow’s (I am Oglala Lakota) but it would not catch on as good as with the white folks as with Indians I think. Anyway, I thought I could call the drink stand “Yerba Mate for the Oyate” because it rhymes (Oyate in Lakota language means “the entire Nation akin to ‘All the People’) and is pronounced Oh-Ya-Tay.
Pilaymaya (Thank You!)

Mate is the only thing that goes through my coffee maker now

I quit coffee for eight months and started drinking herbal tea, which I enjoyed very much. I started feeling very fatigued, so I went to the doctor. I found out I have Hypothyroidism. By the time I found out, I had already started drinking coffee again to fight the fatigue.

The old jitters and agitation came right back. Just in time, I read in a book, "Living well with Hypothyroidism," that yerba  mate is a great and healthy alternative to coffee when you need an energy boost. I jumped on the internet and hence a beautiful site of wellness. I found the Guayakí website. I loved reading all of the testimonials and other great health information. I found Guayakí at Huckleberries in Spokane and wow!! I'm hooked!!! I like to use the french press or I use the method of soaking over night and then I run it through a gold coffee filter into the coffee carafe. Mate is the only thing that goes through my coffee maker now. I like it by itself or at times I will add my bulk herbal teas to the mate, I like peppermint the best. Would like to try the gourd method real soon.

I have so much energy and no jitters. I started my Yoga class again. My husband asked me what I wanted to do for a 3 day weekend and I actually said, "I would like to go on a hiking trip." Then I said, "was that me that just said that??" I now have new vision: when I'm out on the Golf Course or just during my normal work day. I'm excited about life again!!! Of course I'm working on all of the people around me to join in this great feeling. I have convinced a few, (including my husband), but would like more to join in. I'm especially working on my Mom. She has Diabetes and drinks a lot of coffee. I'm very persistent: Although, it can be hard to get the coffee junkies converted!

The other thing I noticed is that my appetite seemed to decrease and that's a good thing. I have always been a sugar junky and now I just crave healthy food. I can't believe it, but I don't even want my nightly Rocky Road Ice Cream! Now that's a miracle in itself!

To be regular again is also a good thing. Don't worry: I won't go into those details.

Mate is great in the back-country!

My life is research in the remote canyons of the desert southwest. I'm an ecologist and ornithologist aspiring to determine the consequences of climate change as it echoes across the food chain - from plants up to predatory birds. It's a challenge, mentally and physically, requiring critical thinking to make good decisions and perseverance to bang out the grunt work. Mate helps me to quickly adapt to irregular hours of work and rest, to retain and focus my mental clarity, and, even better, to shrug off the feelings of fatigue during long stints of camping out. I'm able to find a center, in mind and body, and to stay sharp, all without the fallout and crash from a cowboy coffee buzz. When I'm on the go I throw a few tea bags in my water bottles; if I have some free time I find a shady alcove and heat up some water to steep loose leaves. Mate fits right in with the sandstone, flash floods, rattlesnakes, and cactus - right on! Thanks for the tea!

I stopped drinking coffee about a year ago because I figured out that it acts as a catalyst for my panic attacks. Yerba Matte doesn't have that effect! I'm able to drink it and not worry if it'll cause my anxiety to spike. And because the energy from it lasts so long, I don't have to keep drinking it to keep myself going and risk it causing an anxiety attack. Thank you so much for bring this to us! It has really helped me with controlling my anxiety. I LOVE YERBA MATE!!! and it loves me ;)

Cutting Unhealthy Habits!

Thanks to yerba mate I have cut down on all my snacking, alchohol drinking, and lots of other unhealthy habits. I have a hard time keeping my bloodsugar up but Mate helps me tons. I drink it all the time.
I first grew up in Nevada in the late eighties and early nineties in an age where most of my friends indulged in many types of candy, chips, sodas and anything else you can think of. After getting allergy tests in 4th grade my parents took me off of all that stuff because I was having a hard time paying attention in school.I stuck with it and things went ok.After relocating to Omaha Nebraska in the nineties I realized that simply cutting out the foods I was allergic to was not helping me to pay attention in school.I started on a journey to find something that would stimulate my system that went something like this: Packaged vanilla cappucino

Coffee; Ginseng; Kola Nut; Ginkgo Biloba; Red Bull; Ephedra; Various types of caffeinated sodas and gum; Sea Silver; Protein Shakes; Pill vitamins (A,B,C, You name it); Pretty much every variety of protein, pill vitamin, and liquid vitamin on the market.; And finally some of the ADD pharmaceuticals on the market...after going to the doctor for my problem.

After trying everything I decided to drop out of school with no intentions of going back. I left highschool and shortly after (a year or two) I discovered Yerba from a relative. I drank it everyday at the art gallery where I worked and I found myself having alot of extra energy without overstimulating my nervous system and body. My body actually felt calm and relaxed while my mind felt stimulated and nourished. It was like eating a thanksgiving meal without the tired feeling, and like drinking a cup of coffee without the shakes. I finally felt that I had made some dietary progress on my long journey towards energetic well being.I started studying and I took my GED tests with amazing scores and I have gone on to take college classes with amazing grades and results.  My formula?  Yerba Mate.  Thank you Guayaki for saving me money, time and energy.  I feel like I can be me without having to bombard myself with medication and expensive useless products.

Scene: Beautiful Spring Day Time: 6 pm Mood: Lethargic, mind-cloudiness, fatigue Wish: COFFEE! Result: It was my 3rd cup. The beautiful day made me want a large iced coffee. But I did not feel better, instead it triggered a disasterous migraine. I felt like I was experiencing a caffeine overdose. Post-Result: Looking at that iced coffee in my cup holder the following day literally made me nauseous.  I had only one option...ideally a coffee-alternative that would keep me happy and energized on such a spring day and naturally, every other day..and with yerba mate it's as real as it is perfect and I'm as energized as ever.

A Typical Seattleite Coffee Addict.

Hello Fellow Guayakí Lovers, This is my tale. I just heard about Yerba Mate Monday September 9th 2002. I am a typical Seattleite coffee addict. I have been trying & struggling with giving up coffee.

I'd managed to replace my regular coffee with green tea but I was really having a hard time giving up the infamous Granita. One of my cooks at work (I'm a waitress) informed me that I wasn't drinking "real green tea", I should try what his significant other drinks, Guayakí. I proceeded to call this special lady after work, she told me all about the wonderful tea & where to get it. That very night as my daughter & I were on our way to Ballet class I swung on into Manna Mills to get some Yerba Mate. On our way home from dance class I stopped at Linen's & Things to pick up a French Press. Tuesday morning dear hubby got me my traditional granita. I did brew up some Mate later in the day while I was reading all the testimonials, wasn‚t sure about the flavor at first but it grows on you. After reading most everything on the web page I didn‚t care about flavor any more, now I was trying to figure out how I was going to get my kids & husband to drink this magical elixir. I went to get the flavored tea bags. I was in a fantastic mood, feeling energized, ready to take on the world. When my kids got home from school I told them about it and they were like, yeah yeah, okay Mom whatever.
I have to set the stage a bit. I NEVER (repeat NEVER) get up at 6:00 A.M. with my kids before school. I get up between 3:00 ˆ 4:00 A.M. for work 3 days a week. Other than that forget it! Unless of course we are getting ready for a ski trip. I was up at 5:30 in the morning brewing Guayaki for us to drink. Also I made the kids some water bottles with 2 bags a piece in them.
Enter Adam age 18: small in stature: Had cancer at age 2. He has been left with a host of physical & emotional issues in the aftermath of this retched disease. He struggles in school and has had to take anti-depressant medication for a while. He's had kind of a negative outlook on life.

Enter Aaron age 14: A little league base ball player for 7 years, now is incorporating football into his life & on the freshman team. Aaron is in his 5th year playing the Cello. He has struggled with attention deficit hyperactive active problems: never used meds. School has also been a challenge for this one.

Enter Ali (Alicia) age 12: Ali too struggles in school, but not with a labeled‚ learning challenge, she requires lots of extra time in tutoring for things to click for her. She is a lovely but MOODY young lady who just this spring developed allergy‚s to the point of taking an allergy pill daily.

Note: The sibling rivalry between Aaron & Ali has been intense. Either one go out of their way to be nice to each other? Not a snowballs chance in the hot place. We are ecstatic when they simply keep their hands OFF one another.

Wednesday evening, kids are in the house, Aaron home from football practice. Ali is leaning against the back of the couch, Aaron is sitting on the opposite end doing Algebra, Adam is sitting at the kitchen table & I‚m leaning against the counter. I ask the kids about their day, did they notice any differences from the norm? Did they have better mental clarity, how was their energy, etc? Adam says, "Yeah, I was awake & alert all day Mom! It was great. I had a really good day, I even re-filled my bottle like 5 or 6 times, my tea bags finally disintegrated." Aaron replies, "Yeah I felt great too, my energy was good even after practice (those who have children in football know how grueling it is on them). Kids in Orchestra were saying "that‚s not water,(skeptical of the color) what are you drinking?!" He told them with a smile, "It‚s tea man, Guayaki." Then Ali pipes up, "Yeah, I felt real good too, I wasn‚t tired, I was thinking better. I even helped Sam in math class, a LOT! Aaron got up off the couch, came around to about 3 or 4 feet from Ali as we were talking. Then there were a few moments of silence, as all were absorbed in their own thoughts. Aaron looked at his sister, paused briefly, and then wrapped his arms around her. Her arms were straight at her side. Adam & I looked at each other in surprised amazement. Ali was looking at me with this extremely puzzled, almost horrified expression on her beautiful face. She was speechless. It was all I could do to keep it at a subdued chuckle. I looked at Aaron & asked, "Well, what was that for?" He said, "She just looked like she needed a hug." About a half hour later I hear Ali in this whinny troubled voice, "Mom, Aaron's hugging me again." My oh my, did I laugh. This is the son who took particular delight in torturing his sister to no end. I have had to do serious battle with my urges to not run up to the Espresso stand more than a couple times a day in the past. I have hardly thought about going up there the past 4 days! Battling urges? What urges I now say to myself. No withdrawal no nothing! I am astounded. I have been up every day with the kids since I started partaking of Yerba Mate. 6:00 A.M. this morning I was telling Adam about the traditional way of sharing Mate. He wants to start doing this. It will be interesting to watch life unfold and change as we embrace this new tradition. I am curious to see how it will change the academic lives of my beloved children as well. A most deep, heart felt thanks of gratitude to the Guayakí people for sharing this sacred wonderful way of life with the world at large. And thank you Bill & Mary for telling me about it in the first place!

I convinced my husband to drink Guayakí as a "favor" to me because he is going to have a surgery on a work related injury. I wanted him to have optimum health before going in so he is "humoring" me. After he drinks his tea he asks me, "Does this make you happy?" Of course I serenely reply with a grin on my face, "Yes very." I think, my husband struggled with ADHD as a kiddo, they have seen that it runs in families. His mind races, he is a hyper energy type person, he jumps from subject to subject, on & on. My favorite succinct description (excuse any vulgarity): Most times he's wound up tighter than a popcorn fart. Just after I mailed in my original story Jeff came home and tells, "You know Monica, I think I'm noticing some things.I do seem calmer, in a better mood. It feels like I am thinking more clearly and when I've missed my coffee, (he hits that espresso stand up too) which I have missed, I don't have a headache. That one really surprises me."   -- Monica Jacobson (September 13, 02)

Enter yerba mate...

Dear  mate folks, Having my coffee every day for the last 10 years, it was starting to bear on me and I was starting to feel sluggish and bloated, and often I would drink more coffee even if I knew I was dehydrated and should have food or water instead.
I love my coffee though. Recently I started drinking tea as an alternative because I learned about it's healthful properties. I also suffer from mild but chronic depression and thought maybe laying off the coffee would help. But tea, no matter green or black, gets terribly bitter if I let it sit, and it makes me kind of sleepy when the body is expecting coffee. Enter yerba mate. Today I drank no coffee. Instead I had two pots of yerba  mate, or about 6 cups. Some remarkable things I am noticing at the end of the day: - I don't want any coffee - I'm in a good mood - I'm alert - I'm not yawning. I just feel really good. My body and mind seem to be perfectly happy with  mate! This coming from someone who normally gets cranky, headache, and drowsy if not getting my coffee quota. I even tried to get my wife tomando  mate, having an impromptu  mate drinking ritual. Alas, my wife does not like the flavor of it, she thinks it tastes like "cigarettes". What can I say? I guess she has an unadventurous palate. Maybe it's the smoke curing she was noticing. Nonetheless, I love the complex, sweet and smoky flavor of  mate. It rivals the flavor of the best shade-grown organic coffees.  Glad to be a customer,

Musical mate Secrets

My name is Joshua Luke and I was introduced to Yerba  mate by an elder in Boston Mass. The  mate she introduced me to, was that of the Twelve Tribes Religion. I then researched and found that the best way, was to research directly to the Guarani people themselves; and that is when I found Guayakí. This is definately more effective for me. It tastes more clean and supports the Guarani people themselves. I want to thank all the people involved with Guayaki for making this happen. When I first sipped the magic brew, it was as if I was drinking the Earth herself. I was heavily addicted to any light roast coffee and could put away two large iced coffees in no time. I suffered from sleeping dissorders, depression, anxiety, shallow breathing, sleep disturbances (jumping out of sleep), and a bit too touchy.(hiss) I was a little afraid of what would happen if I got off of coffee; but when this elder friend made  mate for me, and I started drinking it daily; the  mate hugged my spirit and reasured me it was going to be allright, that she would take care of everything, and she did; I had no side affects whatsover not even a headache. I have been drinking  mate for almost a year now, daily, and I have had some magical experiences along the journey. Sometimes the Guayakí  mate will whisper secrets to me, tell me jokes and I laugh with my full belly. Guayaki Yerba Mate loves music too. When I perform, I drink Guayakí  mate. I play congas and hand percussion, and let me tell you, the Mate LOVES music, whew! I attend college full time at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in Western Massachusetts in the Berkshire Hills. this Magic  mate has helped me make more rational decisions in dealing with professors and managing time. I do not suffer from fatigue in the classroom anymore and can communicate more effectively. I fill my reusable cotton tea bag and just keep filling my cup until the water is just barely light green and then squeeze it out to get every last drop. When I make my first cup of the day, I try to remember to pour a little on the earth, in thanks for this wonderful plant.
I love my Guayaki Yerba Mate straight and strong, as plain as dirt, as dark as night, oh it feels so right! Drinking Mate underneath grandmother moon, my thanks and gratitude to the earth cycles and grandfather sun for giving life helps me move right through the strife. To this Guayakí Yerba  mate, in the shade she has it made; I thank the birds for spreading the seeds, and all the good deeds the Guayakí have done, to spread this magical juice all over, under the sun. And the cedar for protecting her, and the fire for purifying the nutrients. The people who harvest this herb, shall recieve many blessings in the future to come! - Joshua Luke (December '02)

Yes I was THE great coffee drinker.

I roasted my own grounds, and carefully blended my own variations to come up with my favorite dark roast blends. Yes, I am, or should I say, I was, a dark roast freak. But low and behold something very tragic happened to me. My stomach started to revolt.
I could no longer put anything acid down my gullet without becoming violently ill. I became very weak, and struggled to find the things I could eat and drink. So I started to explore teas to ease my craving for a hot drink in my hands. Yes tea could get me thru. But remember I liked robust coffee back then, fine delicate teas were not going to cut it. So the search began, Japanese teas, Chinese teas, the search continued until I found Guayakí on the net. I popped for ten pounds. Now realize I had never tested this unique tea. Fully realizing I could be burned I waited with anticipation. After receiving this totally untested tea, which came very quickly by the way, I went over the instructions again. I was struck by its unusual flavor, its dark green color. An I liked its slightly smoked flavor. The color was deep and dark as my own unconscious, while the flavor was rich an unexpected like life. I was hooked! I drink this tea every day and my stomach has gotten much better. The drink of my life is Guayakí Yerba Mate. This is no story, I only drink this tea now, and my health has improved tremendously. I can not relax until I hold my mate in hand and sip this tincture of ancient dark green liquid.  --  c coppinger (July 2, 02)

A calming mania that doesn't quit...

I LOVE your product, mission, passion, etc.....however I have this setting on my steering wheel that sucks me into the black hole that is small coffee establishments. This little problem has led to many big problems such as stomach ulcers and more recently gallstones sparking me to have my entire gall bladder removed!
What is amazing is that I have since given up my coffee addiction and started drinking your traditional loose tea, and the change in the way I feel is incredible!! Whereas coffee sparked a manic energy surge and then left me crashing soon thereafter, your mate' initiates a calming mania that doesn't quit. I am a nursing student and the classes require a ton of memorization. My memory is much better and I am testing better since drinking your mate'. And what is even greater is that I don't feel like I have to drink it like I did when coffee was my beverage of choice. And my gastrointestinal ailments seem to be in a remission. I don't have heartburn or sour stomach since I began drinking your mate' regularly. I just want to thank you for your product! It is most definitely life changing! -- Courtney Janssen    2004-04-22

Feeling the Energy!

Working at a mom-and-pop coffee shop on the east coast, I developed a horrendous coffee habit:  Drinking a combo of straight espresso and dark roast coffee.  There were weeks when I consumed 80oz per day of the bitter black brew. The more I drank, the more I needed the pick-me-up.  Depressed and low on energy there was no place for me to go when that dreaded crash fromthe caffeine drop came...except back to the espresso machine; pull another shot and hope it'd last for another five minutes .  The headaches, water retention, and mood swings weren't enough for me to give up the precious drug.  My wrenching stomach was just something I was going to have to live with.
But, behold!  Sluggishly pushing my cart about the neighborhood grocer I spot a little yellow bag, "FEEL THE GOOD ENERGY!", it proclaimed. "What ho, Guayaki Yerba Mate...I will feel it!", exclaiming my conviction to find a good pick-me-up to anyone in the vicinity.  I tossed the light container into my cart. Little did I know what kind of change that little flick of my wrist was about to bring about in my jittery caffeine addicted life. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical at first:  Could this little bag of tea replace my beloved coffee bean?
After quaffing the yerba mate for a day or two instead of the usual cup-o-joe, I felt lighter...I mean to say I felt energized, healthier even.  I felt fresh, as if someone had taken me to the local Human Wash and given my vital organs a good scrub; and afterward, hand waxing me with a soft terry cloth.  I felt shiny.  After a couple of days of drinking the tea I never looked back to the black days of coffee.
So here I am today, still drinking the good old yerba mate...telling the world how I'm renewed daily by this magical tea.  I have discovered the Guayaki Difference.  And by George, you ought to, too! I still haven't come down from the high.  No crashing here...just solid, bright, pure, GOOD ENERGY.  Thanks Guayaki!  -- K A Jones    2005-05-18
