In 2009, Guayakí became the first Fair Trade Certified yerba mate company in the world.

"When people purchase Guayaki Yerba Mate, they are buying a product that adheres to the highest environmental and sustainable business practices.  Being the first to establish fair trade certification for our yerba mate reflects our dedication to the quality of our product, our environment and the yerba mate farmers and artisans in South America."- Chris Mann, Guayakí CEO.

"It is a testament to Guayaki's devotion to its mission that it has succeeded in becoming the first Fair for Life social and fair trade certified yerba mate company, Guayaki will be the catalyst to drive the principals of fair trade for the entire yerba mate industry."-- Wolfgang Kathe, IMO.

"Fair for life" is a brand neutral third party certification program for social accountability and fairtrade in agricultural, manufacturing and trading operations.

Guayakí is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.

Guayakí adheres to the principles of the Fair Trade Federation.  We pay more than twice the world market price for our yerba mate, and provide a living wage to our growers as well as the artisans that craft our gourds and bombillas.  Our goal is to encourage a healthy balance of family life and work. We encourage you to purchase fair trade yerba mate.

Guayakí is privileged to sell the gourds and bombillas of four Argentine artists. They earn several times minimum wage and above living wage for Argentina.  Rodolfo is able to make his entire living from selling his handcrafted gourds. Marcelo is able to create his gourds and bombillas not in a factory, but at home with the help of his wife, Monica – another Guayakí artist, and their two sons.

Certified Organic:
Guayaki Yerba Mate is produced without the use of chemical pesticides, herbicides, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs).   CCOF is the only full service organic certification and trade association providing premier organic certification programs and trade association benefits to farms, processors, private labelers, retailers, restaurants, brokers, and supporting members including individuals, suppliers and service providers.

Why Organic?
Growing organically is an essential part of sustainable agriculture.  Organic agriculture protects the water supply, enriches the soil, encourages biodiversity & helps reduce the toxic burden on our bodies and our planet. There are many components of sustainable agriculture that go beyond organic cultivation:  recycling nutrients, composting, and integrating crops with the surrounding forest environment.  Sustainable agriculture is essential for creating healthy environments and communities.

Why Certification?
Certification offers valuable assurance that an acceptable standard is followed.   Certification assures consumers that organically produced foods and textiles meet a consistent set of standards that were developed and regulated by the USDA's National Organic Program.

Kosher

All of Guayakí’s products are certified kosher.  To keep up with the increasing demand for quality, Guayaki has undergone all the requirements to become certified kosher from Kosher Supervision of America (KSA). In doing so, our processing plant was thoroughly inspected by a Kosher Rabbi. The Rabbi found the cleanliness and sanitation to be of the highest quality, thus ensuring that products both produced and handled at Guayakí are Kosher.

What is Kosher?
"Kosher" is a Hebrew term originally used to denote food that is fit and proper.
It refers to the set of Jewish dietary laws and regulations that govern the selection, packaging and preparation of food. It means that a given product is permitted or acceptable for consumption within this Code of Jewish Law. For those who follow this code, it is done for both health and religious reasons. Given the complex nature of the laws of Judaism one should consult a Rabbi when a personal question of Kosher may arise.
